Cleaning Service in Nepal | Spotless & Reliable

Some companies offer most of these, and others stick to one or two. When you call, describe the job in plain words, for example "deep clean of a three-bedroom flat after the tenants leave", and ask exactly what is included.

Why Nepal's Conditions Make Professional Cleaning Worth Considering

Every country has dust. A few local factors make it more of a recurring job here.

Dry-season dust and smoke. Nepal's Department of Environment explains that dust and smoke build up in the air when there is no rain for a long time, and that rain and wind help clear it. In April 2026, the Kathmandu Valley's air quality index climbed to 247, which falls in the "very unhealthy" range, before easing after rainfall, as reported by Online Khabar. Dust that hangs in the air doesn't stay there: it settles on floors, shelves, fan blades, screens and window tracks.

Damp in the monsoon. From roughly June to September, humidity encourages mould and mildew in bathrooms, wardrobes and poorly ventilated corners. Closed cupboards and wet laundry make it worse.

Cooking residue. Daily frying, tadka and gas cooking leave a sticky film on walls, hoods, tiles and cabinet fronts. The longer it sits, the harder it is to shift.

Building work next door. Many neighbourhoods have ongoing construction, and fine grit finds its way indoors.

Rented and shared spaces. Rooms, flats and hostels change hands often, so a proper clean between occupants is common.

Festival habits. Many households give the home a thorough clean before Dashain and Tihar, which also makes this a busy season for cleaners. Booking early gives you more choice.

None of this means your home is unhealthy. It simply means cleaning here works best as a rhythm rather than a one-off chore.

Cleaning Your Home: Regular, Deep and Everything In Between

Home cleaning is the most requested category, and it comes in two main forms.

Regular cleaning keeps a clean home clean: sweeping or vacuuming, damp mopping, dusting, wiping kitchen counters and cleaning bathrooms. It works best on a weekly or fortnightly rhythm.

Deep cleaning goes further. It reaches the places regular cleaning skips: grout lines, window tracks, the tops of cabinets, behind appliances, inside kitchen cabinets if agreed, ceiling fans and light fittings, bathroom scale and the back of doors. It takes longer, uses more equipment and usually costs more per visit. A common pattern is to book one deep clean to reset the house, then maintain it with lighter regular visits.

Cleaning company or domestic helper?

Many households in Nepal use a domestic helper for daily or weekly chores, and that works well for routine upkeep. A cleaning company is a different arrangement. It usually sends a small team, brings its own equipment and products, follows a defined list of tasks, and gives you someone to contact if the result isn't right. That's why companies are more common for deep cleans, move-related jobs and post-renovation work, where specialised tools and a larger team make the difference.

If you want the full breakdown for homes, including what's usually included room by room, Nepal City Packers and Movers has a separate house cleaning services guide, and its house cleaning service page is the place to ask about availability.

Move-Out and Move-In Cleaning: The Job People Forget to Plan

Cleaning and moving are tightly linked, and the timing matters.

Moving out. A rented home is usually expected to be handed back in good condition, and a greasy kitchen or stained bathroom can turn a deposit conversation sour. The best moment to clean is when the home is empty, which means after the movers have loaded the last box and before you return the keys. Trying to clean the night before, with furniture still in place, rarely gives a good result.

Moving in. It's far easier to clean cupboards, shelves and bathrooms before your belongings are inside them. Even a basic clean makes the first night feel more comfortable, especially in a home that has been empty for weeks.

A few habits make both easier:

1. Photograph the home before and after cleaning, especially if a deposit is involved.
2. Clear the space first. Cleaners can't do a proper job around boxes.
3. Agree the handover date, keys and deposit settlement in writing.
4. Do a final walkthrough with the landlord or incoming tenant if possible.

For the packing and planning side of a move, the house shifting checklist is a good companion, and the guide on what to do right after moving in covers the first days in the new place.

Post-Construction and Renovation Cleaning

Building and renovation work leaves a very particular kind of mess: fine cement and plaster dust, paint splatters, adhesive marks, sawdust and leftover packaging. A mop and bucket rarely fixes it.

A proper post-construction clean generally follows a sequence:

• Remove debris and larger waste first.
• Dry dust and vacuum before any wet cleaning, otherwise the dust turns into paste.
• Clean windows, frames and fittings carrying paint or cement marks.
• Clean floors with methods suited to the surface, since marble, tiles and wood scratch differently.
• Repeat dusting afterwards, because fine dust keeps settling for days.

When you book, tell the provider what work was done, which surfaces you have and how recently the work finished. That helps them bring the right tools and avoid damaging delicate finishes.

Office, Shop and Commercial Cleaning

Offices, clinics, shops and shared workspaces have different needs from homes: heavier foot traffic, shared washrooms, pantries and a need to avoid disrupting work. A commercial cleaning arrangement is often scheduled outside working hours, and it's worth agreeing the scope in writing:

If you're relocating an office, check that the new premises are clean before your team arrives and that any renovation dust has been dealt with. The office shifting checklist helps you sequence the move, and it's worth asking any provider what cleaning support can be arranged around the move date.

Sofa, Carpet and Mattress Cleaning

Soft furnishings hold dust, spills and odours, and a vacuum alone doesn't lift what's deep in the fabric. Professional cleaning typically uses shampooing or extraction with specialised machines, followed by drying time.

Things to ask before booking:

• Is the price per seat, per piece or per square foot?
• How long will the item take to dry, and when can we use it again?
• Is the product suitable for the fabric (velvet, leather, jute and wool all behave differently)?
• Will you test a hidden spot first for colour fastness?

For a rough sense of how upholstery is priced, one Nepali home-services platform announced a sofa cleaning service in the Kathmandu Valley at NPR 600 per seat when it launched in July 2025, according to ShareSansar. Treat that as one reference point, not a standard rate, because prices vary by provider, fabric and condition.

Nepal City Packers and Movers lists carpet cleaning services among its offerings, so you can ask about carpet and soft-furnishing options when you enquire.

Water Tank Cleaning

Many Nepali homes and buildings store water in rooftop or underground tanks, because municipal supply isn't always consistent. A tank that is never cleaned collects sediment, algae and dust, and the water can start to look cloudy or smell off.

There's no single national schedule that every household follows. As a general guide, many sources suggest cleaning a household tank every six to twelve months, and sooner if the water looks discoloured, the tank sits in direct sun, or sediment builds up quickly. Large tanks serving small households are worth watching too, because water that sits still for days goes stale faster.

A proper tank clean usually means draining the tank completely, scrubbing the walls and floor, rinsing thoroughly, disinfecting with a suitable product and refilling only after the tank is rinsed clean. Ask the provider how they handle the disinfectant and the rinse, since leftover residue is the common mistake.

If you want to learn more, Nepal City Packers and Movers has a water tank cleaning service page and a separate guide to water tank cleaning in Nepal.

Kitchen, Bathroom and Specialist Surfaces

Two rooms take the most effort in any house, and a few surfaces need extra care.

Kitchens. Grease on walls, tiles, hoods and cabinet fronts is the main challenge. Ask whether the exhaust area, inside of cabinets, and appliance interiors are included, because those are often extras.

Bathrooms. Hard-water scale, soap residue and mould around grout need descaling products and scrubbing, not just a wipe.

Marble and natural stone. These surfaces are sensitive to acidic cleaners and can dull or stain. If you have marble floors or counters, tell the provider upfront and ask what products they use on stone.

Wooden floors and furniture. Too much water can damage them, so confirm the method.

Pest control. Pest treatments are a separate specialist service from cleaning. If you have a pest problem, ask for it separately and be aware that cleaning products and pest treatments shouldn't be applied at the same time without advice.

What Affects the Price of a Cleaning Service

Because every home and office is different, a trustworthy provider quotes after hearing the details. A fixed price given without any questions is usually a guess. These are the factors that normally move the figure:

What a good quote looks like. Ask for it in writing and check that it names the address, date and time window, the type of cleaning, the rooms and tasks included, the extras that cost more, the team size, who supplies products and equipment, and the total price. When you collect quotes from several providers, give each the same information so you're comparing like with like.

How to Choose a Reliable Cleaning Service in Nepal

Price matters, but it shouldn't be the only signal. These checks separate a dependable team from a risky one.

1. Do they ask questions first? A good provider wants to know the size of the space, the type of cleaning, the surfaces and the condition before quoting.
2. Is there a real business behind the number? Ask for a company name, address and registration. Companies in Nepal register with the Office of the Company Registrar, and you can check records through the OCR website. Ask whether they issue a proper bill, since a business that won't give a receipt is hard to hold accountable.
3. Who will actually come to your home? Ask how many people and whether they're employed or supervised by the company. This is more accountable than an unknown individual.
4. What products and equipment do they use? Vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines and surface-appropriate products matter, especially for floors, tiles and upholstery. Ask about anything you or your family are sensitive to.
5. What happens if you're unhappy? Ask whether they'll return to fix missed areas and how soon you need to report them.
6. Can you reach them easily? A phone number or WhatsApp line that someone answers is a good sign.
7. Are the reviews believable? Look for steady, specific feedback over time rather than a burst of identical praise.

Warning signs: no questions before a price is given, a very low quote with no explanation of what's included, vague answers about products, no written confirmation of date and price, pressure to decide immediately, or a demand for full payment upfront with no terms.

How to Prepare Before the Team Arrives

A little preparation shortens the visit and improves the result.

• Put away valuables, cash, jewellery and important documents.
• Clear floors and surfaces of toys, clothes and papers.
• Point out priority areas and tell the team about fragile or delicate surfaces.
• Keep pets and children in a separate room if possible.
• Confirm access: keys, water, electricity, and any building rules such as lift use or visitor registration.
• Agree who supplies cleaning products and equipment.
• Be present or reachable, at least at the start and end of the visit.

After the visit, walk through every room with the team before they leave, and raise any missed spots on the day. It's far easier to fix a problem while the team is still there.

A note on chemical safety. Never mix cleaning products, particularly bleach with ammonia-based cleaners, which can release dangerous fumes. Open windows while cleaning, wear gloves, and keep products away from children and pets.

How Booking Usually Works, Step by Step

Knowing the usual sequence helps you spot a provider that is cutting corners.

1. You share the basics. Location, size of the space, type of cleaning, preferred date and any special surfaces. Photos help a lot, especially for kitchens, bathrooms and heavily soiled areas.
2. The provider asks follow-up questions. Floor type, number of bathrooms, lift access, how long since the last clean. This is a good sign, because the answers decide how long the job takes.
3. You receive a written quote. It should list the tasks, the extras and the total. For larger jobs, some providers prefer to visit or do a video walkthrough first.
4. You confirm the date, time window and access. Agree how keys will be handed over and who will be at the property.
5. The team arrives and starts with a short walkthrough. You point out priorities and delicate surfaces.
6. You inspect before they leave. Walk through each room, and raise anything missed while the team is still on site.
7. Payment is settled as agreed. Keep the bill or receipt, particularly for move-out cleaning where a landlord may ask for proof.

Common Mistakes People Make When Hiring Cleaners

• Booking the wrong type of clean. A regular visit won't fix a home that needs a deep clean.
• Choosing on price alone. A very low quote often leaves out the tasks you assumed were included.
• Skipping the written quote. Without it, you can't point to what was agreed if something is missed.
• Cleaning before the move is finished. Clean after loading, not the night before.
• Leaving valuables out. Store them securely or keep them with you.
• Not mentioning delicate surfaces. Marble, wood and glass tops can be damaged by the wrong product.
• Waiting until the last minute. Festival weeks and month-end moves are busy, so earlier bookings give you more choice.

A Cleaning Calendar for the Nepali Year

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does a professional cleaning service in Nepal usually include? Most cover dusting, sweeping, mopping and cleaning of kitchens and bathrooms. Some add windows, balconies, appliances and soft furnishings. Inclusions vary by provider and package, so ask for a written list of tasks before you book.

2. What is the difference between regular cleaning and deep cleaning? Regular cleaning maintains a home that's already in good shape. Deep cleaning is a far more thorough job, reaching corners, grout, fixtures, tracks and hard-to-reach areas. It takes longer and usually costs more.

3. How much does cleaning cost in Nepal? There's no single standard rate. The price depends on the size of the space, the type of cleaning, the condition, the surfaces, the extras and the access. Ask for an itemised written quote and give every provider the same details so you can compare.

4. How often should I hire a deep cleaning service? Many households book a deep clean once or twice a year, often before festivals or around a move, and use lighter regular cleaning in between. Homes with children, pets or heavy dust may want more frequent help.

5. Do I need to be at home while the cleaners work? Not always, but being there at the start to explain priorities and at the end to check the work helps. If you won't be home, think carefully about who has access and how you'll confirm the result.

6. Do cleaners bring their own products and equipment? It varies by company. Some bring everything, others ask you to provide some items. Confirm this when you book, and mention any allergies or surfaces that need special care.

7. How long does it take to clean a house? It depends on the size of the home, the type of cleaning and its condition. A regular clean is quicker than a deep clean, and a post-construction clean takes longest. Ask for an estimate of time and team size.

8. Can cleaners handle post-construction or renovation cleaning? Many can, but it's a different job from ordinary cleaning. Tell the provider what work was done, which surfaces you have and when it finished so they can plan suitable tools and methods.

9. When should I clean when I'm moving out of a rented home? After the movers have loaded and the home is empty, but before you return the keys. Photograph the home before and after, and agree the handover and deposit in writing.

10. Is it worth cleaning a new home before moving in? Yes, if you can. Cupboards, shelves and bathrooms are far easier to clean before your belongings are inside them.

11. Can professionals clean sofas, carpets and mattresses? Many do, often as add-on services. Ask how the item is cleaned, whether the price is per seat or per piece, and how long it takes to dry.

12. How often should a water tank be cleaned? There's no single rule, but many sources suggest every six to twelve months, and sooner if the water looks cloudy or smells unusual, the tank sits in sunlight or sediment builds up quickly.

13. What should I check before hiring a cleaning company? Ask whether they inquire about your space before quoting, whether the quote is written and itemised, who will come, what products they use, what happens if you're unhappy and whether the business is registered and issues a bill.

14. Is it safe to let cleaners into my home? It's reasonable to ask a few questions first: how many people are coming, whether they're employed or supervised by the company, and what happens if something is damaged or missing. Store valuables securely.

15. Which cleaning products shouldn't be mixed? Never mix bleach with ammonia or other cleaners, because it can release dangerous fumes. Ventilate the room and use each product as directed on the label.

16. How do I deal with mould during the monsoon? Ventilate rooms, dry damp items, wipe condensation and avoid keeping wardrobes and corners closed and wet for long periods. For serious or recurring mould, ask a professional to check for leaks.

17. How can I reduce dust inside my home in the dry season? Damp-mop and wipe surfaces regularly, keep windows closed during the dustiest hours, clean fan blades and filters, and shake out mats outdoors. Dry sweeping alone can push dust back into the air.

18. Can I book cleaning before Dashain or Tihar? Yes, but demand rises before major festivals, so book early and say exactly what you want done, such as a deep clean, windows and balconies.

19. What if I'm not happy with the result? Ask about this before booking. Many providers will return to fix missed areas if you report them promptly, so walk through each room with the team before they leave.

20. Can I arrange cleaning alongside a house or flat move? Yes. Nepal City Packers and Movers lists cleaning services alongside its moving services, so you can ask what can be arranged around your move date. Message the team on WhatsApp with your location, the size of your home, the type of cleaning and your date.
